My fiancé lives with me for the last few months in my hometown, but he
is originally from another country–on another continent where they
speak another language. His English is fluent enough, but he is more
comfortable in his mother tongue, however, we are communicating to
each other in only in English so it is strong enough.

The problem that I am having is finding friends for him in his newly
adopted hometown. He is self-employed, so he works from home and thus
does not get an opportunity to find new friends through the workplace
or in school.

To make matters worse, the few girlfriends that I have are single, so
there are no prospects of making friends through their husbands or
brothers/family that I may have. Plus, there are no eligible prospects
at my job for me to introduce him to either.

He is a shy guy, so he is not the type nor does he want to go to a
sports bar and try to mingle. By any chance, do you have any
suggestions? As a techie, he is not the type that can make friends
with others on the golf course or over a game of pool in the bar. He
does like foreign soccer, the Internet, and movies, but his focus is
heavily weighed down with running his own business.

Recently, he expressed his desire to make friends since he misses his
old buddies in his homeland and that it would help for him to fit in
better in his newly adopted town, but we are stuck for ideas on how to
safely and naturally make new friends. Do you have any ideas for us?
